What are Nasdaq index futures?

CME Group lists futures contracts on the E-mini Nasdaq 100 (NQ) contract and the Micro E-mini Nasdaq 100 contract (MNQ).

The Nasdaq 100 is an index of the 100 largest companies by modified market capitalization listed on the Nasdaq exchanges.

  • The index can include companies outside of the technology sector so long as they are listed on the Nasdaq.
  • To be included on the index companies must have a minimum average daily trading volume in excess of 200,000 shares.
  • The composition of the index is reviewed quarterly.

CME Group Nasdaq futures products offer derivatives market access to the Nasdaq 100 index and trade like any normal futures product.

The notional value of the NQ (the E-mini Nasdaq contract) is $20 x the Nasdaq 100 index.

The notional value of the MNQ (the micro E-mini Nasdaq contract) is $2 x the Nasdaq 100 index.

The NQ contract lists quarterly contracts (March (H), June (M), September (U), December (Z), for six consecutive quarters and four additional December contract months.

The MNQ contract lists quarterly contracts (March (H), June (M), September (U), December (Z), for five consecutive quarters.

Both NQ and MNQ are financially settled.
